- Lagos leads with 14,300 confirmed cases, 12,021 active, 2,087 treated and discharged and 192 deaths
Nigeria on Saturday recorded 39,977 Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases out of total tests of 259,516, with 438 new infections.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said via its official Twitter handle that 11 deaths was “regrettably” recorded in the country on Saturday.
According to the NCDC data, out of the 39,977 confirmed cases, 22,173 were active, 16,948 cases have been treated and discharged while 856 deaths have been recorded in 36 States of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Altogether, Lagos has an unassailable lead in Nigeria’s COVID-19 figures with 14,300 confirmed cases, 12,021 active cases while 2,087 have been treated and discharged as 192 deaths was recorded as of Saturday.
Lagos is followed by FCT with 3,451 confirmed cases, 2,388 active cases, 1,022 treated and discharged patients while 41 deaths have been recorded.
Next is Oyo State with 2,517 confirmed cases, 1,345 active cases, 1,148 patients treated and discharged and 24 deaths.
Edo has a total of 2,165 confirmed cases, 694 active cases, 1,394 discharged patients and 77 deaths while Rivers has 1,640 confirmed cases, 446 active cases, 1,142 discharged and 52 deaths.
NCDC said that out of the 438 new infections from 24 States and the FCT, Lagos maintains its position as the epicentre of the virus in the country with 123 cases, Kaduna (50), Rivers (40), Edo (37), Adamawa (25), Oyo State (20), Nasarawa State (16), Osun (15), Enugu State (15), FCT (14), Ekiti (13), Ondo State (13), Ebonyi (11), Katsina State (10), Abia (9), Delta (8), Kwara (4), Ogun (3), Cross River (3), Kano State (3), Bauchi State (3), Yobe (2), Sokoto State (1) and Niger (1).
The health agency asked Nigerians to avail themselves of the opportunity of availability of testing centres and voluntarily go for COVID-19, stating that all tests conducted in the public facilities and within its Molecular Laboratories network were free.
“There are seven fee-paying labs accredited by the Lagos State Government for COVID-19 testing – Total Medical Services, SynLab, 54gene, Medbury Medical Services, Biologix Medical Services, O2 Medical Services, Clina Lancent Lab, Lagos,” it stated.
It noted that results from these laboratories were recognised by the agency.
It also announced the inclusion of the Virology Laboratory, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu State, to its Molecular Laboratory Network.
The health agency said that this brought to 59, the total number of laboratories in the country.
