With 262,579 COVID-19 tests, Nigeria’s confirmed cases jump to 40,537 with 555 new infections

Nigeria’s Coronavirus (COVID-19) figures has jumped to 40,537 confirmed cases with 555 new infections on Sunday.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said via its official Twitter handle that two deaths were recorded on Sunday.

Nigeria has so far conducted 262,579 COVID-19 tests with 40,537 confirmed cases, 22,300 being active cases and 17,374 of the patients treated and discharged while 858 deaths were recorded in 36 States of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The NCDC said that the 555 new infections were from 18 States of the federation with Lagos taking the lion share of 156, Kano (65), Ogun (57), Plateau (54), Oyo(53), Benue (43), FCT (30), Ondo(18), Kaduna (16), Akwa Ibom (13), Gombe (13), Rivers (12), Ekiti (9), Osun (8), Cross River (3), Borno (2), Edo (2) and Bayelsa (1).

The figures came as the NCDC advised Nigerians to limit or avoid the sharing personal items as well as to avoid touching high-contact surfaces like door handles and stair rails.

Reminding Nigerians to note that the virus that causes COVID-19 can live on surfaces for several hours, the NCDC further urged that efforts should always be made to clean  all surfaces with soap and water or disinfectants.
