Nigeria records 79 new COVID-19 infections, lowest since April 27 when 64 was reported, NCDC warns the pandemic isn’t over

Nigeria on Sunday recorded low figure of 79 Coronavirus (COVID-19) new infections, the lowest since April 27 when 64 was reported. This brings the nation’s confirmed cases to 56,256.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) also said via its official Twitter handle that 64 COVID-19 patients were treated and discharged on Sunday while four died.

Altogether, Nigeria has conducted 440,248 sample tests, and out of the confirmed cases of 56,256, 44,152 were treated and discharged, 11,022 active cases still being treated while 1,082 deaths were also recorded.

The public health agency said that the 79 cases were reported from 13 States with Lagos posting the highest figure of 30, Kaduna, 17, Ogun, seven, while Anambra reported five cases.

The NCDC data indicates that Kano had four, while Katsina, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Akwa Ibom had three cases each.

Oyo and Rivers recorded two cases each, while Delta, Plateau and Ondo recorded one case each.

The NCDC however admonished Nigerians to do what was expected of them so as to avoid a surge in COVID-19 cases.

“We need to keep observing all the preventive measures put out by the agency to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We need to be mindful of those around us. Ensure you wear a mask when you are in public to protect yourself and others. We need to work as a team to prevent and detect COVID-19.”

The health agency warned that COVID19 is not over, stating: “when it is over, the Minister of Health will make the announcement. We need to keep doing the right things and to encourage others to do same.”
