As hoodlums kills 6, burn vehicles in Abuja, Buhari appeals to youths to end protests

  • Says “You have spoken loudly and clearly. I have not only listened but have heard”

President Muhammadu Buhari has again appealed to protesting Nigerian youths to stop the ongoing EndSARS protests which entered its 14th day Tuesday.

But the President, as has been the trend since the protests started, spoke through a bulk SMS sent to Nigerians through their mobile telephones.

The SMS sent under the acronym PMB (President Muhammadu Buhari) reads: “You have spoken loudly and clearly. I have not only listened but have heard. I appeal to you to now go about your business. We are acting on your demands.”

On Monday, President Buhari spoke through another surrogate, saying that it is the fundamental human right of the youths to protest, “so long as the protest is peaceful and focused.”

Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Sunday Dare, who spoke to journalists after a meeting with President Buhari also stated that he has been able to convince President Buhari that Nigerian youths are patriotic.

President Buhari spoke just as about six people died at the popular Apo Mechanic Village in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, following violent clashes between #EndSARS protesters and pro-SARS hoodlums.

Houses, vehicles and shops were also set ablaze, according to the Tribune Online’s findings.

Witnesses said trouble started when some miscreants appeared and allegedly accosted the peaceful protesters at Kabusa village junction down to Apo market.

The protesters initially resisted the heavily armed hoodlums, who have been converging into Abuja since Sunday. But the hoodlum invaders retreated and started burning vehicles parked along the roads in the area.

The hoodlums also moved to the Apo Mechanic Village, where they also attacked many people, burning shops and property within their reach.

Irked by the action of hoodlums, people regrouped and engaged them. This later resulted in the death of six persons.
