Dr Madubuko, former Anambra State Commissioner abducted days after resignation on December 11, released

Immediate past Anambra State Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Dr. Christian Madubuko, who went missing about 18 days ago after his resignation from the government of Governor Willie Obiano, has been released.

Though details of his release is still sketchy, his wife, Chioma, send out a message yesterday expressing joy and thanking friends and well wishers for their prayers and goodwill.

According to the message: “It is with great joy and Precious Thanks to our good lord that I am informing you that The Hon Commissioner Dr Christian Madubuko has been released.  Thank you sooooo much for your prayers and good will. Remain blessed.”

The abduction of Dr Madubuko had drawn panic and outrage on citizens of the State as there was no contact with the family. There was also worry that if a former Commissioner can disappear without trace, then it signals a bad omen for the security of lives and property as many fear this could be the beginning of another wave of kidnappings.

Wife of the former Commissioner, Mrs. Chioma Madubuko, family members and Nigerians in Australia had addressed the media, calling for help in locating Dr Madubuko.

Meanwhile, Dr Madubuko’s community, Anaku, last week Tuesday staged a peaceful protest over the disappearance of the former Commissioner, calling on the State government to wade in and ensure he was rescued alive.

The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Haruna Mohammed, had also said that the Command was investigating the sudden disappearance of the former Commissioner.

Madubuko, a Canadian-trained expert, who resigned as Commissioner on December 11, had in his letter asked Governor Obiano “to take charge of his administration” as he alleged threat to his life and sabotage against the State administration.
