Anxiety has befallen traditional rulers in Anambra State after they were made to undergone COVID-19 tests as part of measures to stem the spread of the pandemic in the State.
They were said to be awaiting results of the test with fear of uncertainty.
Anambra State Ministry of Health officials carried out the tests at the Traditional Rulers’ Council Chambers, Government House, Awka, the State capital.
The State Government administered the tests to ensure that the royal fathers were not infected by the virus as that could easily transmit the disease to their subjects.
Igwe Sunday Okafor, Deputy Chairman of the State Council of Traditional Rulers who spoke after the exercise, reminded his colleagues that COVID-19 was not a death sentence.
According him, the test was important as it would lead to early detection and would increase chances of survival of any of them that might test positive.
He expressed displeasure with some Nigerians, who still believed that COVID-19 was not real.
The natural ruler advised the state government to extend the COVID-19 tests to all the villages in the State.
In her remark, the officer in charge of Diseases Surveillance and Notification in the State, Mrs Nelly Dike, said that the second wave of COVID-19 appeared more deadly and expressed satisfaction at the turnout of the traditional rulers for the test.
