Bandits abduct staff, students of Govt Science Secondary School, Kogara, Niger State, in early Wednesday morning raid

Bandits who have been having a free reign in Niger State have invaded Government Science Secondary School, Kagara, headquarters of Rafi Local Government Area of the State, abducting staff and students.

The abduction came a day after the bandits released video and still pictures of a group of people it abducted last week in which they are demanding a ransom of N100 million.

Sources said that the bandits invaded the school around 3am on Wednesday as the students and staff were sleeping.

It is still not clear how many students and staff were abducted, injured or if anyone was killed, but a sources said that a student who tried to escape was shot dead while some others sustained injuries.

Senator Shehu Sani, a former Senator and Kaduna-based activitst, said he has spoken with the principal of the school who confirmed the incident.

The incident happened 48 hours after 21 passengers heading to Minna, capital of Niger State, were abducted in broad daylight.

While they were released on Tuesday, news of fresh killing of 11 and abduction of 25 in the State broke.

The high rate of insecurity in the country has been a source of concern but all efforts to check the trend have not yielded the desired results.
