Int’l Women’s Day: Gbajabiamila’s wife celebrates Nigerian women, calls for elimination of inequity and injustice against women

The wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Salamatu Gbajabiamila, has celebrated Nigerian women on the occasion of the International Women’s Day over their resilience over the years.

Mrs Gbajabiamila said she was proud of Nigerian women and paid glowing tributes to them, calling for the elimination of inequity and injustice that women encounter in their daily dealings.

“On this year’s International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience and achievements of women all over the world.

“At the same time, we acknowledge the challenges we face in the different spheres of our lives and rededicate ourselves to conquering those challenges so each new generation of women can live better and more fulfilled lives than the generation before.”

In the statement released by her Media Aide, Julcit Onigbogi, Mrs Gbajabiamila said the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, #ChooseToChallenge, “is a call to service and a mandate to go forth and build a better world for women and humanity.

“As we delight in the hard-won achievements of today, let us prepare ourselves to do all that we can to eliminate from our world the vestiges of inequity and injustice that still too often stand in the way of women achieving their dreams.”

The Speaker’s wife honoured the women who live the spirit of this year’s theme every day and paid tribute to those who strive to do so despite significant obstacles.

“I rejoice in the memory of the women who paved the way, who made sacrifices that made today’s achievements possible. And I applaud all the women and girls who continue to work hard to make their mark in this world in every way possible.

I wish you all Happy International Women’s Day.”
