Former CBN Governor, Soludo, escape assassination attempt as gunmen kill 3 policemen, abduct Commissioner

The Nigeria Police in Anambra State on Wednesday night confirmed the attack by gunmen on gathering being addressed by  Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in the Civic Centre of his hometown, Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra.

Professor Soludo, a Governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the November 6, 2021 election, was  holding meeting with Isuofia youths at the Civic Centre when the gunmen stormed the compound.

Tochukwu Ikenga, Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the State Police Command, who confirmed the attack, however said he was not sure of the killings.

“I can confirm that there was  a gathering in Isuofia community where Professor Soludo and other personalities gathered for a meeting on Wednesday, March 31, 2021.

“For now, we can only speak of the gunshots, but other details especially on whether there was  causalities or not will be when we get more facts,” he said.

An eyewitness said there was serious stampede in the Afuzo area of Isuofia and that three of Soludo’s security details were killed.

A source said that Soludo escaped and is safe. But the Anambra State Commissioner for Public Utilities, Engineer Emeka Ezenwanne, was taken away by the gunmen.
