Nigeria’s late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, and the six other senior Nigerian Army officers who died in the air crash of a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) transport aircraft will be buried on Saturday.
Nigerian Army Spokesperson, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, said in a statement early Saturday that the burial ceremonies would commence simultaneously with religious services at the National Mosque and National Christian Centre, Abuja by 10am.
According to the statement, General Attahiru would later be interred at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja by 1pm.
The full statement reads: “The Burial proceedings of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Late Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru and 6 other senior officers who lost their lives in an air mishap in Kaduna is slated for today Saturday, 22 May 21.
“It will commence at the National Mosque and National Christian Centre, Abuja by 1000hrs respectively.
“Consequently, the interment for the late COAS and 6 other senior officers will take place at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja today (Saturday) by 1300hrs.”
Along with General Attahiru aboard the aircraft was Brigadier General Abdulkadir his Principal General Staff Officer (PGSO), Brigadier General Olayinka (Provost Marshal, Army), Brigadier General Kuliya (Director of Military Intelligence – DMI, Majors LA HAYAT and HAMZA, (security aides) Sargent GT Umar, (Orderly).
Among the crew were Flight Lieutenants TO Asaniyi and AA Olufade (Pilots), Sergeant Adesina and Aircraftman (ACM) Oyedepo.
