Residents flee to Niger Republic village as bandits kill 3 in Garin Zogo, sack 8 villages in Sabon Birni LGA, Sokoto State

Bandits have killed three persons at Garin Zogo village and sacked eight villages in Sabon Birni Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State.

The Councillor representing the area in the LGA Legislative Council, Ibrahim Muhammad Saraki, said Garin Zogo was attacked on Friday around 10:30pm.

The Special Adviser to the Council Chairman on Security, Lamiru Umar, while corroborating the killings and the sacking of the villages, said some of their people were currently taking refuge at Tsululu village in Niger Republic.

According to the Councillor, “they killed three persons and injured one. They also rustled animals, broke into many shops and carted away unascertained number of goods.”

Saraki added that the bandits also attacked Nasarawa, Gidan Idi and Rambadawa villages on Saturday where they injured three person and rustled animals.

He stated that the gunmen further broke into homes of residents of the area and dispossessed them of their belongings.

Said the Councillor, “we are not living in peace in our communities any longer because the killing is taking place everyday.

” As I am talking to you now our people don’t longer sleep in their homes. They spend their night in Sabon Birni town and return in the morning, including me.

“And there are some villages that are completely deserted like Rambadawa, Garin Idi, Tudun Wada, Nasarawa, Tamindawa, Garin Ango, Tsaunar Dogo and Tashalawa.”

He however, appealed to the state government to come to their rescue.

The Spokesperson of the Sokoto Police Command, ASP Sunusi Abubakar, could not be reached for comment.
