ISWAP terrorists invade, burn down Army base in Kwamdi, Damboa LGA, Borno State

The Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have overran a Nigerian Army base in Kwamdi village, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, carting away weapons after a fierce gun battle with the troops.

Sources said that the terrorists rode into Kwamdi village location of the military base in 10 utility vehicles on Tuesday evening, burning down one Amoured Personal Carrier(APC) and a gun truck.

A member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) that assists the military in the fight against terrorism, the terrorists targeted the military camp but not residents.

According to the source, “they came at about 4 p.m. and due to the sand storms it was difficult for the soldiers to repel them. They burnt down the base including APC and four other vehicles. I can’t ascertain if there was any causality figure.”

Another source also confirmed that terrorists attacked the base on Tuesday at about 4 pm and that the gunfight lasted for about an hour and 30 minutes.

He noted that the terrorists took advantage of the raging sand storm to penetrate the Army base.

Said he: “Our base at Kwamdi came under attack but we didn’t lose any of our personnel to the attackers, unfortunately the base suffered some damages.”
