- Army kills 80 of the bandits who kidnapped FGC Yauri students, teachers
Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Major General Faruk Yahaya on Saturday visited the Theatre Command Headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai in Northeast to assess the welfare of the troops.
General Yahaya was the Commander of Operation Hadin Kai from where he was appointed the COAS.
The Army Chief also visited the Army hospitals where wounded soldiers are being treated, assuring them of adequate health care and support in their fight against Boko Haram/Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists and in pursuit of the counter-insurgency operations by the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
General Yahaya also visited the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, the 7th Division Military Hospital in Maiduguri and the military workshop at the Frontline.
The visits came just as the BBC Hausa Service reported that the Nigerian Army killed over 80 of the terrorists that kidnapped students of Federal Government College (FGC) Birnin Yauri.
They reported that the bandits were killed in an ambush by the Army around Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Thursday night.
According to the report, seven students were rescued but many are still with the surviving kidnappers.
David Otto Endeley, International Security, Terrorism Consultant and Researcher, said via his Twitter handle @ottotgs: “We hope that the remaining #FGC students are successfully rescued unharmed.
“In most cases kidnappers separate their victims in smaller cells to make it impossible for a total rescue of all victims. #BH did same with #ChibokGirls. Possible that only one cell was neutralised.”
