Nigeria mourns veteran actor, Victor Olaotan

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Friday condoled with the family, friends and fans of the popular Nollywood actor, Mr. Victor Olaotan, who died on Thursday.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Friday by Segun Adeyemi, Special Assistant To The President (Media) Office of the Minister of Information and Culture, the Minister said the hard work and commitment to excellence of the likes of Mr. Olaotan are the reasons Nollywood has taken the world by storm.

”A distinguished thespian and a gentleman, Mr. Olaotan brought joy to many homes through his talent, and was a source of inspiration to the younger generation of actors and actresses in the country,” he said.

Alhaji Mohammed, who also commiserated with the entire Nollywood industry, prayed to God to give succour to the family left behind by Mr. Olaotan, and to grant repose to the soul of the departed.

The veteran actor had earlier been flown to Turkey for prompt medical attention after he became incapacitated following the car accident he was involved in along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Lagos.

Billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola, and some well-meaning Nigerians and philanthropists, including his colleagues and fans helped raise the funds for his treatment.

Before his demise, Olaotan for about seven years breathed real life into the character of Fred Ade Williams on the MNET flagship soap opera, Tinsel.

Victor Olaotan who was born in Lagos in the early 50’s, studied drama at the University of Ibadan, at the Obafemi Awolowo University and at Rockets University, United States.

An accomplished stage and screen actor, Olaotan warmed his way into the consciousness of television viewers, playing the leading role in Tinsel.
