IPOB/ESN gunmen attack Police checkpoint in Onitsha, kill 2 Policemen, others, burn patrol vehicle

Gunmen who security forces allege are Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Eastern Security Network (ESN) shattered the serenity of Sunday morning in the Eze Iweka, Onitsha area of Anambra State, attacking operatives of the Nigeria Police, killing two and setting their vehicle ablaze.

Others people were reportedly killed in the attack and several others injured.

A source said that “unknown Gunmen attacked Police now at Ukaegbu junction by Eze Iweka in the general Onitsha area, killed two police officers and burned their vehicle.

“Please watch your movement towards that area.Police is firing guns now everywhere.”

Specifically, the gunmen attacked happened around 9am along Ukaegbu /Ezeiweka road in Onitsha, killing the Policemen and injuring others at a security post mounted by the Police operatives.

An eyewitness said the gunmen may have been angered by the alleged extortion by operatives at the security post.

A source said: “Any time they stay there, the residents feel relieved because the place is a dangerous zone. But the way they extort motorists is what people don’t like

“The problem the Policemen have is that they don’t listen or monitor situation. People are angry because of the situation of things in the country and you continue to extort them every day.

“Nobody knows the unknown gunmen, many people believe they are members of the Pro -Biafra agitators and the reason all of us should be careful about things we do.”
