Nigeria: Residents seize 13 terror ‘bandits’ from Sokoto Police station, burnt to ashes, on Saturday

An angry mob on Saturday sacked the Divisional Police headquarters in Tangaza Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State, Northwest Nigeria, killing 13 suspected terror bandits whose corpses were burnt to ashes.

Sources said that the terror bandits were among those who invaded the area around 8pm on Friday, killing two persons, including a shop owner.

The source noted that the terrorists carted away some food items in the shop and forced two residents to carry the food items into the bush, after which they killed them.

The Police and local security guards later mobilised and went after them, arresting 13 of them in the Tangaza forest and later brought to the Divisional Police headquarters on Friday morning.

The stolen food items were recovered during the operation.

The source stated that after the terror bandits were brought into the Police station, angry youths stormed it, overpowered the personnel and killed all the suspects whose corpses were set on fire.

A resident said residents are now all out to defend their community against any possible reprisal.

The Spokesperson of the Sokoto Police Command, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, confirmed the incident but did not go into details.

Abubakar however said: “And more security operatives have been deployed in the area.”
