Military repel ISWAP terrorists attack on Babbangida, Tarmuna LGA, Yobe State, forced to withdraw in disarray

The Armed Forces of Nigeria troops on Sunday repelled an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists who invaded Babbangida community, the headquarters of Tarmuwa Local Government Area (LGA) of Yobe State, Northeast Nigeria.

Babbangida is 50 kilometres Northeast of Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

The ISWAP terrorists were however met repelled after a gun duel with reinforced security forces and troops of Operation Hadin Kai.

 A source noted that while the security forces were engaging the terrorists at the outskirts of the town, most of the residents ran out of the town for fear of being caught in the gun battle cross fire.

Yobe Police spokesman ASP Dungus Abdulkareem, who confirmed the attack, said: “I am still awaiting details of the incident from our men at Babangida. I don’t have any details at the moment.”

The terrorists had invaded in large number of gun trucks and motorcylces from the Gudumbali axis and were obviously on a mission to ransack and loot provision stores and food items and medicines. But after engaging the vigilant troops in a gun battle for hours, they were forced to withdraw.

However, no casualty was recorded on the side of the Nigerian troops.
