How Dr Chike Akunyili was killed by ‘Unknown Gunmen’ Tuesday night in Nkpor, Anambra State

  • His body being conveyed to mortuary Wednesday morning

The gruesome insecurity in the South East region especially Anambra State following the spate of killings by Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) operatives has struck at its lowest as Dr Chike Akunyili, Agbalanze Agulu and husband to late Professor Dora Akunyili was on Tuesday killed by unknown gunmen.

Dr Akunyili was killed along with his Police orderly at Nkpor Junction, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Dr Akunyili was on his way to Onitsha, Anambra State to receive an award for the late Amazon wife, Professor Dora Akunyili.

The award was by her classmates at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Late Chike Akunyili had received the award and was on her way back to Agulu, his hometown on Tuesday night when his vehicle was attacked and was shot at point range in the face and killed.

The family was contacted late in the night and because of the security situation, they made arrangements to visit Nkpor on Wednesday morning.

They identified the body and are making arrangements to convey the body to the mortuary

 The President General of Agulu Progressive Union, Honourable Onyebuchi Okpala, who first announced the death of Dr Akunyili in a post titled: “Agulu Mourns their Diamond Son by, PG Agulu.”

Okpala said: “Agbalanze was killed by Unknown Gunmen. May the Lord console Akunyili family and Ndi Agulu in general. RIP.”
