Under-fire Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s position remains safe from the sack despite his side’s torrid run of form, according to reports.
A 4-2 defeat at the hands of Leicester extended United’s nightmare period, which has left them trailing the top four and stuttering in their expected title challenge.
However, Solskjaer will not be axed in the wake of the latest setback with the board still throwing their weight behind him, The Athletic have claimed.
As outlined in the report, the beleaguered Solskjaer still has ‘a lot of credit in the bank’ as far as the hierarchy at Old Trafford are concerned.
And it is this belief in his project that will see him spared from another big change at the helm, regardless of United’s three-game winless run in the league.
United splashed the cash to bring in the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane in the summer as they looked destined to push Manchester City at the top.
Instead, United have been accused of looking disjoined, with accusations and criticism levelled at Solskjaer and his coaching staff in recent weeks.

They are now also facing up to a testing run of fixtures, with Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal all to come in the near future.
Solskjaer was handed the role as manager on a caretaker basis in December 2018 after the sacking of Jose Mourinho, and was appointed permanently the following March.
A promising campaign last term saw the former United striker given a new three-year deal in July – with the option to extend for another year.
Should Solskjaer see out his fresh terms, he will stay in charge at United until at least 2024.

United’s defeat at the King Power brought an end to their 29-game unbeaten run away from home, a league record, in limp fashion.
When questioned on the performance, Solskjaer said his players endured a ‘bad day’
‘It’s always tough when you come here and then, you need to perform to get results,’ Solskjaer told Manchester United’s official website.
‘And of course, it had to happen one day that we lost away from home.
‘We didn’t deserve more because we didn’t perform up to the standards to take points in the Premier League.

‘So we have to look at it, learn from it, which, of course, we’ve had time now over the international break to look at things we need to do better. Today, we just didn’t do things well enough.’
He went on to add: ‘We didn’t deserve a point. We got the lead, Mason showed his quality and then we give them a goal. All the goals we conceded were disappointing in the way we conceded.
‘It wasn’t just the midfield, but we were too easy to play through. Maybe we gave too much space but that just the whole team.
‘I agree we didn’t defend well enough. Today, we just didn’t do things well enough.’
