De-proscribe IPOB, release Nnamdi Kanu to us, de-escalate military in Southeast Nigeria, regional Traditional Rulers urge Buhari

Two days to the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), traditional rulers of the five South East States under the aegis of the South East Council of Traditional Rulers, have urged President Muhammadu Buhari to release him from detention into the hands of the Igbo traditional and religious leaders.

They also want the President to show sagacity, pragmatism, statesmanship and fatherliness by causing IPOB to be de-proscribed as a terrorist organization.

The traditional rulers spoke in a statement signed by H.M Eze Joseph N. Nwabeke (Chairman, Abia State Traditional Rulers Council,) H.M. Obi Nnaemeka Achebe, CFR (Chairman, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council), H.M Igwe Ambassador. L.O.C. Agubuzu, OON (Chairman, Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council) and H.M. Eze Dr. E.C. Okeke (Chairman Imo State Traditional Rulers Council).

The monarchs also demanded that President Buhari de-escalate military presence in the South East Zone as normalcy returns.

The statement urged “His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, to show sagacity, pragmatism, statesmanship and fatherliness by causing the IPOB to be de-proscribed as a terrorist organization.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to be released from detention into the hands of the Igbo traditional and religious leaders.

“Mr. President should also de-escalate the military presence in the South East Zone as normalcy returns.”
