The Police in Kogi State has confirmed that six persons were killed with some houses burnt by gunmen in a Monday morning attack on Bagana community, Omala Local Government Area of the State.
The Kogi State Commissioner of Police in Kogi, Idrisu Dabban, who confirmed this to newsmen after a visit to the area, said necessary measures would be taken to forestall resurgence of the clashes.
Sources said that the attackers had gone straight to the palace of a traditional ruler, Chief Anyebe Salifu, whose stool was classified as third class only a fortnight ago.
A witness, Yakubu Salifu, who is also a son of the traditional ruler, said the assailants invaded the community at about 7:30 a.m. when most of the youths in the community had gone to the farm, and headed straight to the palace of the traditional ruler, setting it ablaze.
In the process, he said, the bandits shot and killed three persons, including one Madam Achebe Alih.
They also shot sporadically, killing three and injuring many others.
Sources said no arrest has been made but the Police said they are investigating the incident.
