- To try erring Nigerian Army personnel in the war against Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorism
The Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division of Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Abdulwahab Eyitato, on Saturday inaugurated a Special Court Martial in Maiduguri, Northeast Nigeria, to try erring personnel under the Division.
At the ceremony in Maiduguri, General Eyitayo assured that the Court will deliver on the task of ensuring that Justice is done dispassionately and professionally.
The GOC, who is also the Commander, Sector 1 Operation Hadin Kai, disclosed that emphasis shall be laid on statute laws and the traditional military regimentation with due adherence to fair hearing requirement as enshrined in the Constitution.
He further implored the Court to carry out its duties objectively and justifiably.
“We are here for you. We will listen to your complains and attend to every issue brought forth,” Eyitayo added.
The President of the Special Court Martial, Brigadier General Edward Ojabo, assured the GOC of the Court’s objectivity and fairness.
Similarly, the Acting Director Legal Services, Lieutenant Colonel Chukwudi Okonkwo urged the Court to look at Justice from a holistic view and employ global best practices.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Principal Staff Officers, Formations and unit Commanders of 7 Division, Judge Advocate, members of the Special Court Martial, the Prosecuting and Defence Counsel.
