Boko Haram/Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, desperate to inflict violence against Nigerians and the Armed Forces, on Saturday morning bombed the 1,000 Housing Estate in Maiduguri, Borno State capital.
The bomb explosion by the terrorists, which sparked tension in the area, came just as a rocket launcher also landed at Gomari Airport, a community about four kilometres from the Maiduguri International airport.
Already, a viral video of the explosion is in circulation with residents discussing the emerging new targeting of neighbourhoods with bombs. Crowds also gathered in one of the houses affected by the explosion.
There is yet no records of casualties from the two scenes of the Saturday bombings.
But a source noted that troops of 33 Artillery, Njimtelo, opened fire when they sighted some terrorists on the outskirts of Maiduguri, triggering a gun battle.
The attacks in Maiduguri happened about 24 hours after 31 persons, including two Nigerian Army officers and five soldiers lost their lives when ISWAP fighters attacked the Nigerian Army base in Rann, headquarters of Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno State.
Rann shares borders with Cameroon.
Security sources confirmed that the attack on Rann military base occurred around 1:30am on Friday morning.
There was also an attack at Malam Fatori, headquarters of Abadam Local Government Area of Borno.
The town, which shares a land border with Niger Republic, had been attacked severally by Boko Haram fighters.
