Tragedy, commotion in Lagos as speeding trailer truck crushes 15 students to death

Tragedy struck and commotion reigned on Tuesday afternoon as not less than 15 students of Babs Fafunwa Millenium Senior and Junior Secondary Schools in the Ojodu area of Lagos State were crushed to death while others injured by a trailer truck moving on top speed.

Sources said that the trailer was speeding to avoid arrest by a combined team of officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The truck then lost control and crushed the school children, who were walking on one side of the Ogunnusi Road (old Isheri Road) where the offices of LASTMA, FRSC and the schools (four schools on same compound) are located.

In anger, students and other youths embarked on protest, destroying some other trailers parked or driving along the road.

Sources also noted that the students went violent in protest against the killing of their colleagues and Policemen of the Ojodu Division had a hard time controlling them, intermittently firing teargas to contain the riotous situation.

There was also confusion as parents were lamenting and crying as they frantically searched to their children.

Already, the bodies of the dead children have been evacuated to the morgue while the injured have been rushed to the hospital.
