CNS lauds Buhari on funding, says Navy winning war against maritime crime

Chief of Naval Staff, CNS, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, has lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for effective funding of the Nigerian Navy, saying this has helped to reduce sea piracy and related maritime crime to the lowest ebb.

Admiral Gambo, who spoke at the inauguration of renovated Ratings Accommodation Blocks at the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta, Warri, Delta State, aid the new accommodation would further energize the ratings to discharge their responsibilities.

Represented by Director of Naval Information, Commodore Suleiman Dahun, the CNS recalled that in his mission and vision statement, he had charged officers and men to step up fight against maritime crime, adding that the success had been tremendous.

“This milestone has been recognized even by the International Maritime Group (IMG) which recently said that piracy and other criminal activities in our waters have reduced drastically for the first time in 27 years.

“In my mission and vision statement, I charged our officers and men to among other things redouble their efforts at combating the menace of criminal activities in our waters.

“Am glad to say that under my leadership, officers and ratings have been motivated to put in their very best. This is what you are seeing in terms of significant gains and milestones in the improved maritime security.”
