The statue of Jesus Christ was vandalized by mischievous elements on Christmas night in Ambala, Haryana, India.
The statue is of 173 year old Holy Redeemer Catholic Church located on Durand Road, Ambala Cantt.
Two miscreants were caught on CCTV at around 1.30 am.
And taking the footage, the Police started investigating the matter.
There is anger among the Christian community as soon as the information spread.
DSP Ambala Cantt Ramkumar, along with ASP Pooja Dabla, reached the spot.
The Police have assured that the accused will be arrested soon.
The statue of Jesus Christ in the historic church is installed right in the middle of the main gates with a glass frame around it.
According to the Police, who have started questioning local people, “mischievous elements broke the glass and ruined the statue.”
The Police noted that there was a movement of people till 11:30 in the night. Later this incident happened. There are no cameras outside the church.
But the mischievous elements were caught in the cameras installed on the adjacent road. A white colored Activa is also visible.
The Catholic Holy Redeemer Church of Ambala Cantt is built in the Gothic style in 1848 when the British shifted from Karnal to Ambala. At that time, its Priest was Italy’s Capucine Father Vinance.
It was later rebuilt in the year 1908. This church is three-storeyed with prayers and services held on the second floor.
On its top floor are three large bells, whose echoes were heard several kilometers away, but are no longer used.
During the prayer, British soldiers used to keep guns with them here, which is arranged in the bench. Even today it is in the same Gothic style as it was before.
