Nnamdi Kanu’s N1b Court Judgment Against FG, “Monetary and Psychological Remedy of Apologies,” says Uwazurike

The Abia State High Court judgment which ordered the Federal Government and the Nigerian Army to pay N1billion to the leader of the Indiginous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, over the invasion of his house in September 2017

. Justice Benson Anya gave the order on Wednesday. The judge also ordered the FG & Army to apologise to Kanu.

A High Court in Abia State has ordered the Federal Government to pay the sum of N1 billion to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, and issue a letter of apology to him is “remedy for the case is monetary and psychological remedy of apologies.”

A chieftain of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and former president of Aka Ikenga, Chief Goddy Uwazuruike, said in reaction to the judgment that the argument of the Federal Government that it invaded the residence of Kanu in national interest “It is a nebulous concept which is not acceptable in a decent society.”

Uwazurike, who is also the President of an Non-Governmental organization, Cultural Credibility Development Initiative (CCDI), told Global Upfront Newspapers (GUN) that the suit by Nnamdi Kanu “is a civil suit seeking damages for the breach if the fundamental Human rights of MNK. The remedy for the case is monetary and psychological remedy of apologies.

“The FG was supposed to respond that it had a court order to infringe those rights. Instead, it canvassed overiding national security. It is a nebulous concept which is not acceptable in a decent society.”

Kanu had approached the Court demanding N5 billion over the invasion of his father’s house by the military on September 10, 2017.

In a ruling on Wednesday, according to his lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, the Court presided over by Justice Benson Anya, stated that the Federal Government violated the IPOB leader’s fundamental rights.

The Court also recommended political solution to the agitation for the restoration of the defunct Biafra Republic championed by IPOB.

Kanu’s lawyer made this known in a tweet, saying, “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu WINS as Abia High Court rules that the Federal Government violated his fundamental rights. Orders the Federal government to pay N1b to him and issue a letter of apology to him.

 “Most importantly, the Court recommended political solution to the #Biafran agitation.”
