Nigeria: Lokoja Hospital Detains 30-year-old Lady Over N1.5m Bill

A 30-year-old lady, Faith Sunday, is now being held at a private hospital in Lokoja, capital of Kogi State, Northcentral Nigeria over her failure to settle her N1.5 million bill.

The Executive Director, Challenged Parenthood Initiative (CPI), an NGO, Eunice Abimbola Agbogun, said on Wednesday, that Shifaah Hospital, had carried out a surgery on the woman after she was rushed there in a coma.

She said the lady was still in a coma when her mother, who was looking after her took ill and died in the same hospital.

She added that to make her case worse, her father, a retiree, only visited her in the hospital once and has since disappeared.

Agbogun said the hospital issued a bill of N2.3 million, which good-spirited individuals have contributed to settle part of the bill leaving a balance of  N1,478,704.

She appealed to individuals and organisations to come to the aid of the lady.

“Having passed through the valleys of the shadow of death, Nigerians should help make her joy full by helping to offset the outstanding bills.”

Dr Muazu Musa of Shifaah Hospital said that the lady was brought to the hospital unconscious, resulting from an error in the surgery operation.

He said with the assistance of God, the hospital stabilised her and thereafter, an exploratory laparatomy (Resection and Anastomosis) surgery was carried out on her  successfully, correcting the initial error inflicted on her by a hospital in Lagos.
