Security forces in collaboration with local vigilantes (Yan Sakai) on Sunday repelled an attack on Magami community, Gusau Local Government Area (LGA) of in Zamfara State, Norhtwest Nigeria.
Sources confirmed that the terrorists, who arrived the community in dozens of motorcycles in the afternoon, but were successfully driven away by security operatives.
According to the source, “residents were put on edge and some of the people started scampering to safety. Traders had closed shops and ran to their respective houses to prepare for any eventuality.
“They came on motorbikes and massed up close to Sabon Garin Dutsen Kura, a community located 15 km east of Magami town.
“When the residents got the wind of the impending attack, they informed the security operatives stationed in Magami.
“The security forces and the vigilantes took position near Eid Prayer ground east of the town and the armed criminals arrived shortly afterwards. A gunfight ensued and the criminals were forced to retreat.”
Residents said the motorbike riding gang of terrorists split into two and zoomed off.
In the past, the terror groups had made several attempts to assault Magami community.
The spokesman of the state police command, SP Muhammad Shehu, could not be reached for comment.
