FG Confirms Fire Outbreak at Ministry of Finance

The Nigerian Federal Government has confirmed the outbreak of fire at the Federal Ministry of Finance on Wednesday but said it only occurred at the corridor in the basement of the building.

Thick smokes had bellowed the atmosphere from the Ministry on Wednesday morning, causing panic among passersby and staff who were reporting for duty.

Special Adviser (Media and Communications) to the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi, said in a statement that the Federal Ministry of Finance Headquarters was not on fire as reported on the social media but there was an incident on the corridor in the basement involving an isolated battery Pack and that it was quickly put out by the security personnel on duty.

The statement reads in full: “NewsFlash: The Federal Ministry of Finance HQ is not on fire as reported on social media. Rather, there was an incident on the corridor in the basement involving an isolated battery Pack (photo inset). It was quickly put out by the security personnel on duty.”
