Nigeria: Patience Jonathan Petitions IGP Over ‘Hasty’ Demolition of Her Yenagoa, Bayelsa State Property

Dame Patience, wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba, seeking the arrest of Bayelsa government officials over the demolition of part of her property, Aridolf Resort Wellness and Spa located at the Okaka area of Yenagoa,the State capital.

The demolition exercise was said to have been carried by State Government officials led by a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and the Chairman of the State Physical Planning and Development Board, Alabo Gideon Ekeowe.

Therefore, the former Nigerian First Lady, in her protest letter to the Police, demanded the arrest of Ekeowe over allege abuse of office, criminal demolition and abuse of Court processes.

It was learnt that the fence of the hotel was demolished by the government officials without allowing the management of the hotel and the Police respond to the Court order arising from the Motion on Notice instituted by the Physical planning board.

Investigation revealed that while the Court ruled on the motion on notice on Monday, the officials of the Bayelsa State Physical Planning and Development Board led by Ekeowe demolished the property the same day at about 3pm with the support of the Police.

As the time of filing this report the neither the Bayelsa State Government or the Police has reacted to petition.
