Wreckage of NAF Alpha Jet Allegedly Shot Down By Boko Haram/ISWAP Found In Sambisa Forest

Troops of Operation Desert Sanity on clearance patrol in Sambisa Forest, Borno State on Saturday morning uncovered the wreckage of crashed Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Alpha Jet aircraft (NAF475) that went off the radar with 2 crew members on 31 March 2021.

Operation Desert Sanity is under the Northeast Nigeria-based Operation Hadin Kai, the main anti-Boko Harm/ISWAP force on the Nigerian Army in the region.

The jet was allegedly shot down by Boko Haram/Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists.

But the Search and Rescue operations for the aircraft and crew was hampered because the area was heavily infested with terrorists and heavily mined.

But with the sustained onslaught on the terrorists helped by the infighting between Boko Haram and ISWAP groups, the Armed Forces of Nigeria have been regaining momentum, resulting in capture of areas that looked far fetched even months ago.

Sources said that “further exploitation ongoing” in the area by the troops.
