5 Wedding Guests Abducted By Bandits Along Akpo-Nkpologwu Road, Anambra State Regain Freedom

Five wedding guests abducted by bandits at gunpoint along Akpo-Nkpologwu Road in Anambra State last Monday have been released.

Anambra State Police Spokesperson, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the release of the men on Sunday.

Sources noted that the wedding guests, who were coming from neighbouring Achina town and heading to Ekwulobia where they were to spend the night, were intercepted by the bandits who stopped the convoy of three vehicles.

But two of the three vehicles sped off and the vehicle was stopped and all the five men in the car were abducted.

A family source said the five kidnapped victims were released during the week hale and hearty and that they have since reunited with their families.

But it is not yet clear if ransom was paid to secure their release as both the family and the Police were mum on the issue.

Yet another source confided in Global Upfront Newspapers that “of course, ransom was paid. They were not just released on a platter of gold. They are not that benevolent.”

The family source further said that the abductors were still holding on to the Toyota Camry car in which the freed men were travelling.

“We appeal to them to kindly release the car,’’ he pleaded.
