Multiple gunshots have been fired at the scene of the explosion that rocked Sabongari area of Kano on Tuesday morning.
The shots were fired by security agents trying to disperse the restless crowd at the scene.
Earlier, some of the youths attacked the soldiers with stones but the situation was brought under control. And even as rescue efforts were going on, hoodlums started using the cover of the commotion of the explosion to break into people’s shops and houses, leading to gunshots being fired to disperse the crowd.
Meanwhile, the evacuation exercise is still ongoing as at the time of filing this report with four casualties already confirmed.
But according to reporting by a Kano based online newspaper, Nigerian Tracker, the explosion was caused by a cooking gas in the primary school which is privately owned.
A video of the incident shows a charred body of a child, with many other children scampering for safety with various degrees of injuries and bruises.
Parents have also besieged the school in search of their children and wards.
In a phone interview with President of the Sabon Gari market (Sarkin Kasuwa), Nafiu Nuhu Indabo, he confirmed the incident to the Nigerian Tracker.
Nafiu Nuhu Indabo said some business men at Sabongari market have started closing their shops due to the fear of the unknown.
