Nigeria: ‘Cannibal’ Who Cut Off His Aunt’s Head And Used It To Make Pepper Soup Remanded In Prison

A suspected cannibal who is under arrest in Nigeria after he allegedly cut off his aunt’s head and used it to make pepper soup has been remanded in prison.

Jeremiah Ode, 45, allegedly killed his uncle’s wife Priscilla, 65, and cut off her head with a machete at her farm in Oju, in the Northcentral State of Benue.

Ode then cooked a pepper soup with Priscilla’s decapitated head and was eating a steaming bowl of it when he was caught by relatives on August 19, reports the Nigerian newspaper Daily Post.

Ode was arrested and has appeared at Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on charges of cannibalism.

Silas Igari, from Oju, reported Ode to the police and claimed he had gone to his uncle’s farm where Priscilla was working before he killed her with a machete.

After cutting off Priscilla’s head, Ode, who is known in the community for being mentally deranged, used it to make pepper soup.

Locals said Priscilla’s family had gone out searching for her after she did not return home from the farm – only to find Ode eating her head.

Ode allegedly told police that he and Priscilla had fought each other with their machetes before he overpowered her and killed her.

Nigerian newspaper Stateflash reported: ‘The police considered the narration too normal to be that of a mad man and, therefore, decided to prosecute him.

‘Although the Prosecutor told the court that the accused has confessed to committing the crime, no plea was taken, for want of jurisdiction.’

The Chief Magistrate, Regina Alagh, ordered for Ode be remanded at the Federal Correctional Centre, Makurdi.

The accused has since pleaded guilty of the charge in court, local reports claim.

The case has been adjourned until November 11 for legal advice from the State Ministry of Justice, reports said.
