Nigeria: Military Repel Terrorists’ Attack On Kainji Army Base Holding 1,669 Boko Haram/ISWAP Fighters, Recover Explosives, RPG

Amidst warning of a major terror attack around Abuja, the federal capital of Nigeria, troops of the Nigeria Army had on Saturday staved off an attack on a military base in neighbouring Niger state, in the North-central region, sources said.

HumAngle had earlier reported the attack on Wawa Cantonment of the  Nigerian Army in Kainji, New Bussa Local Government Area (LGA), Niger State.

Wawa Cantonment is a holding facility where about 1,669 Boko Haram/Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) suspects awaiting trial were being held and tried by the Nigerian government.

The attacked location is about 338km northwest of Abuja, the federal capital territory.

A top military source who disclosed this to HumAngle said the soldiers engaged the invaders at the entrance gate of the military base and gunned down at least two of the aggressors.

“Wawa cantonment was under attack but has been successfully repelled,” said the source, who doesn’t want to be named because he was not cleared to speak with the press.”

The source also said the military had recovered a Hilux van, one Toyota Sienna saloon car wired with bombs, some RPG tubes, and one Anti-aircraft gun from them.

“As we speak now, a QRF (Quick Response Force)   team has been in pursuit of some of the fleeing attackers.”

This reporter has sighted gory images of the bodies of suspected terrorists who were killed during the attack, amongst other items recovered from the attackers.
