The People Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Jigawa State, Alhaji Mustapha Sule Lamido, is wooing the All Peoples Congress (APC) Senator and Senate committee on Information and National Orientation, Senator, Danladi Abdullahi Sankara, for his support towards winning the 2023 election.
This came barely five days after a serving Senator, Alhaji Danladi Sankara, has shunned the Governorship campaign flag-off of his party, APC, in Gumel.
Alhaji Sule Lamido’s meeting with the APC stalwart comes on the heels of ongoing rumours that the Senator may leave the APC in the build up to the general elections in the State.
The PDP Governorship candidate said he met for the second time with the Senator at his residence outside the State as part of his ongoing consultations.
Senator Sankara was an ally and close political associate of former Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, the biological father to Mustapha Sule Lamido.
One of Mr Lamido’s aides, Mansur Ahmad, told Global Upfront Newspapers (GUN) that Alhaji Danladi Sankara is one of the elder statesmen in the State and an experienced politician which the PDP Governorship candidate consulted.
However, Mr Ahmad did not disclose the issues discussed in the three-hour meeting between the politicians.
Up to the time of publication, Alhaji Sankara was yet to respond to calls or message to his mobile phone.
Senator Danladi Abdullahi Sankara has parted ways with Governor Muhammad Badaru in the aftermath of the APC primary election of May 28, 2022 where the Governor allegedly backed another aspirant Sankara as the candidate of the APC from the zone.
Sankara then withdrew from the race and has been avoiding political gatherings in the State. He reportedly rejected the appointment as Director General of the APC campaign in the State.
