JIgawa State two-term Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ahmad Mahamud Gumel, has dumped ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) for the People Democratic Party (PDP).
Alhaji Gumel, who is a serving National Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) representing Jigawa State, tendered his letter of resignation to the chairman of APC Galangamawa ward of Gumel on Saturday, citing alleged lack of commitment and confidence on the part of the party (APC) and its stalwarts towards the success in the forthcoming general elections.
Gumel, who was a Governorship aspirant in the 2023 election, said in the letter sited by Global Upfront Newspapers (GUN) in Dutse, JIgawa State capital said: “Wwith all sense of respect and regards as a Chairman, your person and your party to notify you of my resignation from All Progressive’s Congress (APC).
“I’m constrained to take this decision due to the obvious intra-party conflict, disunity and lack of commitment and confidence on the party stalwarts towards the success of the party in the forthcoming general elections.
“By this decision, I will retire to my farming business and equally to continue with my philanthropist gesture to the people of Jigawa State.”
The former Deputy Governor decamped to the PDP few minutes after his resignation at the PDP ward office of Galangamawa ward in Gumel and registered his membership, accompanied by dozens of supporters.
The National Commissioner of RMAFC was received by the JIgawa State PDP chairman, Idris Diginsa, gubernatorial candidate and his deputy, Alhaji Mustapha Sule Lamido and Babandi Ibrahim, Director general PDP campaign council, Malam Nasiru Umar Roni.
Ahmed Mahmoud Gumel was a one time Commissioner of Finance during the administration of former Governor Saminu Turaki. He equally served as two-term Deputy Governor to former Governor Sule Lamido, under the PDP.
The resignation of former Jigawa State Deputy Governor from APC came at the time political pundits are predicting that some APC bigwigs are planning to dump the party due to internal crisis which erupted with the anointing of Umar Namadi Danmodi as 2023 gubernatorial candidate of the party by Governor Badaru Abubakar.
