MC Oluomo, real name Musiliu Akinsanya, who is Lagos State Parks Management Committee Chairman and also the State’s “richest and illustrious Thug Agbero” has withdrawn his threat of violence against Igbos in the State for alleged anti-All Progressive Congress (APC) voting pattern expected in Saturday’s Governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
Wikipedia describes Musiliu Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo as “the head of the Lagos State branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers. He is regarded as Lagos State’s richest and illustrious thug agbero. MC Oluomo was born in Oshodi, Lagos, Nigeria.”
MC Oluomo told a meeting of the supporters of the ruling APC at a meeting on Thursday in Lagos that as Igbos would not vote for the APC, they should stay off all polling stations or face violence.
“We have begged them. If they don’t want to vote for us, it is not a fight. Tell them, Mama Chukwudi, if you don’t want to vote for us, sit down at home. Sit down at home,” MC Oluomo had warned.
The statement had triggered a nationwide outrage, with many calling for his arrest.
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar had condemned the silence of President Muhammadu Buhari and the President-Elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, also ordered the Cybercrimes Unit of the Command to commence immediate and comprehensive investigation into the incident.
Moments after the CP spoke on a television programme, MC Oluomo released a video where he sued for peace.
“People started to mention my name; please I am always for peace; when you take a look at Lagos State there is peace; why will I say don’t go out to vote, if they don’t come out to vote, how will we get votes for APC to win? APC is my party; count me out of the talk going around, the person I was referring to in the video was in the meeting with me, that was why I quickly went to meet her that they said you should not go out and Iya Chukwudi is here with me.”
The said Iya Chikwudi, who spoke in English and Igbo, who obviously was procured for the image laundering, described MC Oluomo as a nice person, saying he purchases food items from her.
The said Iya Chukwudi felt was surprised that her benefactor, MC’s friendly banter with her found its way to social media.
Mc Oluomo, who gained ascendancy during the administration Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Lagos State Governor and has remained one of the most feared supporters of the now President-elect, spoke further, saying: “I was only joking. I am not threatening any Igbo person. Go and ask my Igbo people at Oshodi. Go and investigate there. They will tell you that I am not threatening anybody… may God guide us from people that do not love us genuinely.”
However, checks by Daily Trust showed that MC Oluomo truly threatened Igbos.
In a longer version of the video which went viral on Thursday, he was heard saying Yorubas should get to the polling stations early enough.
He also alleged that ritual killings would be rampant if an Igbo man was allowed to govern Lagos. He said “other detrimental and horrible things” against the Igbos.
