The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has been asked to call the Ogbaru Local Government Chairman Paschal Aniegbuna to stop disobeying the court.
Rev. Dr. Okechukwu Ifeachor told Global Upfront Newspapers (GUN) in a chat that his family won a land suit appeal against the Ogbaru Local Government at the Supreme Court, yet the Local Government Chairman has gone ahead to trespass on the land in question contrary to the judgment of the highest court of the country.
He noted with dismay that he had discussed with the LGA Chairman, Paschal Aniegbuna, about the Supreme Court judgment and they agreed to meet to further discuss on the matter, but the Ogbaru LGA Chairman avoided him and his brothers when they travelled to discuss with him.
Rev. Ifeachor said that the Local Government Chairman, by continuing to trespass on the land in spite of Supreme Court judgment, which he is aware of, is indicative of lack of respect for the rule of law.
He noted that the Local Government took the Ifeachor family land without paying compensation, which necessitated their going to court to challenge the illegal acquisition.
Rev. Ifeachor said that they won at the high court and the Local Government during the tenure of Arinze Awogu appealed the judgment at the Court of Appeal and the Ifeachor family won.
According to Rev. Dr. Ifeachor, the Local Government, during the chairmanship of the same Arinze Awogu, appealed to the Supreme Court to quash the judgment of the Court of Appeal, but the apex court, in a unanimous judgment of five Honourable Justices, dismissed the appeal.
Said Ifeachor, “I wonder why the Local Government should revel in disobeying court of competent jurisdiction. Such impunity and rascality should not be allowed to persist. It is imperative that the Local Government stop forthwith the ongoing illegal activities on the land as that is tantamount to contempt of the court.”
Rev. Ifeachor said that “the intentional violation of judicial pronouncement by the Local Government is capable of leading to breakdown of peace, law and order.”
