U.S. Slams Manipulations In Nigeria’s 2023 Elections, Imposes Visa Ban On Perpetrators, Collaborators

The United States (U.S.) Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, has announced the imposition visa restrictions on politicians and other collaborators who where involved in undermining the just-concluded Nigeria’s 2023 elections through rigging and other manipulations.

Blinken, in a statement on Monday, said the U.S. is committed to supporting Nigeria’s aspirations to solidify the democratic process and rule of law.

Neither President Joe Biden nor Blinken has congratulated Bola Ahmed Tinubu since the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him President-elect in the early hours of March 1, 2023.

Blinken, however, did not specify individuals that will be victims of the visa bans.

According to the tweet by Secretary Blinken: “We have imposed visa restrictions on specific individuals who undermined the democratic process during Nigeria’s 2023 elections.

“We remain committed to supporting Nigerian aspirations to strengthen democracy and rule of law.”
