U.S., South Africa Holds 2-day 19th U.S., South Africa Defense Committee Session

The Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy hosted the South African Assistant Secretary of Defence as part of the 19th United States – South Africa Defense Committee, June 7-8, at the Pentagon.

The U.S. and South African delegations had robust and candid conversations.  They discussed a range of topics, including defense policy in Africa, security cooperation, countering violent extremism, Women, Peace, and Security programming, and maritime security. 

The talks reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment to strengthening bilateral defense cooperation between the U.S. Department of Defense and the South Africa Defense Secretariat and South African National Defence Force.

Both the U.S. Department of Defense and the South Africa Department of Defence intend to continue the dialogue and cooperation in the next iteration of the United States – South Africa Defense Committee.
