Elon Musk, the owner, Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and chairman of Twitter has announced measures to address data scrapping and system manipulation in the micro-blogging site.
Under the measures announced on Saturday, temporary limits will be placed on the number of posts that can be read on posts in any given day.
Data scraping, which is commonly used to collect business intelligence to inform web content, is a technique where a computer programme extracts data from human-readable output coming from another programme.
According to the post by Musk: “To address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation, we’ve applied the following temporary limits: – Verified accounts are limited to reading 6000 posts/day – Unverified accounts to 600 posts/day – New unverified accounts to 300/day.”
