The brutal murder of Kenyan woman Rachel ‘Kaniss’ Kanini and her Nigerian fiance Olujobi Gbenga, aka Omodollar, has shocked the nation.

The lovebirds disappeared on Sunday, June 25, and their bodies were later found dumped in Ruai.

Sources said that the couple’s killers employed a sophisticated and well-coordinated operation which ensured they left no traces behind.

“Their bodies had been chopped into small pieces and stuffed into two sacks before being tossed around Kamulu,” human rights activist Jackson Njeru said.

Some believe it is a deal gone bad given the two were tortured and murdered and their car burnt.

They were kidnapped on Sunday, June 25, and later killed elsewhere before the bodies were taken to the area where they were found burnt.

The two lived in Ridgeways Kiambu Road, investigations have shown.

Gbenga is said to have called Kanini on the day they were kidnapped and informed her he had been arrested by people purporting to be police officers after an accident near Muthaiga.

No one knows what happened next until the day their bodies were found in an open field burnt with what looked like acid.

It appears that after Kanini turned up, she was bundled into her boyfriend’s car and driven to death.

Her own car was dumped in Thome area in the city while that of her boyfriend was burnt.

Nairobi police commander Adamson Bungei said they are investigating to establish who was behind the murder and the motive.

“Experts are working on the case to establish what happened,” he said.

A neighbour at the scene said she stumbled on the bodies on June 27 and called police.

Given that the kidnappers and killers remain at large, it is believed that they employed a sophisticated and well-coordinated operation, which ensured they left no traces behind.

The discovery sent shockwaves through the community, prompting an outpouring of grief and condolences from friends, family, and fans online ahead of the woman’s burial in Tala, Machakos County.

Locals said the two have been dating for almost ten years.

Police believe the two were killed elsewhere and brought to Josna Farm where they were discovered on Wednesday, June 28 evening with burns.

Police who visited the scene established that the bodies appeared to have been tortured and murdered elsewhere and brought to the scene, where they were burnt.

Both bodies were naked at the time of discovery and their legs and hands were tied with shoelaces, police and witnesses said.

According to police, the body of the Nigerian had visible injuries on the head, stomach and thighs, while the female body had no visible injuries but the lower part of the waist was missing.

The scene was processed and bodies were moved to the mortuary waiting for autopsy.

Police said no arrest had been made so far and investigations are ongoing.
