Putin, Kim Jong Un In Talks At Russian Vostochny Space Launch Facility

  • According to a TASS correspondent, the two leaders had a brief conversation when they met each other

Russian President Vladimir Putin and leader of North Korea Kim Jong Un ended talks with participating delegations.

The talk continues head to head, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

The talks are underway at the Vostochny Spaceport in the Amur Region.

This is the second meeting of Russian and North Korean leaders. The first one was held in Vladivostok in 2019.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and leader of North Korea Kim Jong Un arrived at the Vostochny space launch facility in Russia’s Far Eastern Amur Region on Wednesday.

Putin arrived after taking part in the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok.

Kim Jong Un arrived in the Primorye Region on Monday. After a welcoming ceremony at the Khasan railway station, the North Korean leader held talks with Russian Minister of Natural Resources Alexander Kozlov.

Meanwhile, President Putin and leader of North Korea do not plan signing any documents, Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.

“No,” he said, answering a relevant question.

Putin announced plans to visit the space center during the plenary session of the EEF. However, he gave no further details about the trip.

The Kremlin Spokesperson later told the Rossiya-1 television channel that Russia and North Korea will build up relations on the basis of interests of the two countries.

“The truth is in the first instance that North Korea is our close neighbor. Despite any ‘comments’ and ‘peremptory cries’ from the outside, we will build relations in such way as they benefit us and benefit our neighbors.

“In any case, the full package of relations contemplates the dialog and interaction in sensitive areas, such as military interaction and the exchange of opinions on the most pressing issues in the security sphere. This will also be implemented,” he said.

“All the other matters pertain to two countries, sovereign countries, and should not be the matter of concern for third countries because our cooperation is implemented to benefit the peoples of two our countries and not against anybody,” Peskov added.
