The Director-General of Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission, Mr. Seye Oyeleye, on Monday warned against reading nepotism to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s appointments of Yemi Cardoso as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN); Zacch Adedeji as the chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service {FIRS} and Wale Edun as the Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
DAWN is a technocratic institution dedicated to the sustainable development of the South West Region of Nigeria
Oyeleye said in Ibadan that Nigeria is at a precipice and in the intensive care unit and therefore needs the best brains and hands.
According to the DG DAWN, said: “Mr. President said he would be looking around for the best hands and brains to rescue Nigeria and make use of knowledgeable people. Nigeria is in the ICU. When a patient is in ICU, you don’t do trial and error. The people appointed have distinguished themselves. We are at the precipice.
“We, therefore need all hands on the deck. Nobody should read nepotism and tribalism to the appointments of Yemi Cardoso and Zech Adedeji. Mr. President did not need to look at where they come from but the knowledge they have to rescue the country. Right now, Nigeria needs the best hands and brains.
”I will just advise Edun, Cardoso and Adedeji to hit the ground running. Let the FIRS boss expand the tax net and block leakages. Let the CBN Governor return the apex bank to its primary role. The Governor of CBN is not a child’s play.”
