Army Rescues 6 Abducted Female Students Of Federal University Gusau, Northwest Nigeria

Troops of Operation Hadarin Daji of the Nigerian Army has rescued six of the female students of Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State abducted by terrorists.

It is not yet clear if there were more students kidnapped by the terrorists from their hostels on Friday morning.

Sources confirmed that some of the terrorists were killed by the troops during the rescue operation and that motorcycles, one AK47 rifle and other items were recovered from the terrorists.

More than 24 students of the university were abducted in the early hours of Friday after the terrorists invaded the students residence at Sabon-Gida community of the Bungudu Local Government Area (LGA) of the State.

A resident of Sabon Gida where the off-campus hostel is located, had explained that the terrorists stormed three female students’ hostels at night and took away many students.

Sabon-Gida village is a community opposite the main campus of the Federal University of Gusau that is about 20 km to the state capital, Gusau.

In June, some students of the university protested the spate of abductions involving their schoolmates in Sabon-Gida and Damba.

Said a source: “Many of the female students were kidnapped by the terrorists though some of the lucky ones narrowly escaped. Nobody knows the actual number of the students kidnapped. But when the terrorists came, they entered the three hostels and kidnapped all the students they saw inside.”

However, another source said that troops of the Nigerian Army engaged in fierce gun battle with the terrorists but they still managed to escape with their victims.

Apart from the sources withing the Army which confirmed the rescue of six of the female students, neither the Spokesperson for the university, Umar Usman, nor the the Zamfara Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Yazid, has responded to calls.

Only the Police Spokesperson responded through text message, saying: “In a meeting. Will call you back later.”
