Israel-Gaza War: Again, U.S. Strikes ‘Iran-aligned Groups’ In Syria As 2 Israeli Commandos Killed In Gaza Operation

  • The US has carried out two airstrikes in Syria against Iran and its “aligned groups”, the Pentagon said
  • Meanwhile, Gaza’s largest hospital, al Shifa, is in a “perilous” situation and “not functioning as a hospital any more”, the head of the World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned

The United States (U.S.) carried out two airstrikes in Syria against Iran and its “aligned groups,” the Pentagon said late Sunday night.

This is just as the Israel Defence Forces says two more of its soldiers have been killed fighting in Gaza, bringing the total number of those killed in operations inside the strip to 44.

The U.S. strikes, ordered directly by President Biden, targeted a training facility near the city of Albu Kamal and a safe house near the city of Mayadeen.

The strike is the third since 26 October as the US responds to drone and rocket attacks against American troops in Syria and Iraq.

And the U.S. Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin on Monday morning left open the possibility of more strikes against Iran-linked groups if attacks against American forces don’t stop.

“These attacks must stop, and if they don’t stop, then we won’t hesitate to do what’s necessary, again, to protect the troops,” Mr Austin told reporters at a news conference in Seoul.

Meanwhile, the Israel Defence Forces says two more of its soldiers have been killed fighting in Gaza, bringing the total number of those killed in operations inside the strip to 44.

The IDF named the soldiers as commando brigade members Major Isachar Natan, 28, and Staff Sergeant Itay Shoham, 21.
