- The Israeli military says the bodies of Corporal Nik Beizer and Sergeat Ron Sherman were found during an operation in Gaza and have been brought back to Israel
U.S. President Joe Biden has sent another warning to Israel over its military campaign last night.
The U.S. has been a strong supporter of Israel throughout the war with Hamas, but its tone has shifted in recent weeks over concerns about the number of civilians killed in Gaza.
Speaking to reporters, Joe Biden said Israeli forces should focus on saving civilian lives and needed to “be more careful”.
It came after Israel’s defence minister said wiping out Hamas “will require a long period of time” and the conflict may “last more than several months”
More than 18,000 civilians have died inside Gaza since the start of the conflict, according to the Hamas-led health ministry.
Meanwhile, the bodies of two soldiers taken hostage by Hamas have been recovered, the Israel Defence Forces has claimed.
In a post on Telegram, the military said the bodies of Corporal Nik Beizer and Sergeat Ron Sherman were found during an operation in Gaza and have been brought back to Israel.
“After an identification process carried out by medical officials and military rabbis, today (Friday) IDF representatives informed the families of CPL Nik Beizer and SGT Ron Sherman, who were taken hostage by the Hamas terrorist organization on October 7th, that their bodies had been recovered and returned to Israel,” it said.
Corporal Beizer was 19 years old from Be’er Sheva and was taken hostage while serving as a driver for the Israeli military, it added.
Sergeant Sherman was also 19 and from Lehavim. He was abducted hostage during his service as an NCO, it said.
“The IDF sends the families its heartfelt condolences and will continue to support them,” it added.
