Terrorists continued their rampage in Kaduna State, invading Kwassam and Sabon Layi Kan Makama communities in Kauru Local Government Area of the State, killing six residents, while scores, including a retired director of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Zakariya Markus, were kidnapped.
The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union confirmed the killings and kidnapping on Saturday, saying that over 50 residents were abducted by the terrorists.
The Kaduna State government, in a statement by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who also confirmed the attack, was however silent on the number of people killed and abducted in Kauru LGA.
In the statement by Aruwan, Governor Uba Sani condemned the attack just as he condoled with the families of the victims.
Aruwan, who paid on the spot assessment of the situation on the two communities of Gwada and Kerawa in Igabi LGA, appealed for aggressive military operations against terrorists across the State.
Sources confirmed that the terrorists, who invaded the communities in large numbers, shot indiscriminately, and picked up two people at gunpoint, who led them to the retired CBN director’s residence, where they abducted him.
“The terrorists moved to the family house, where they also abducted his brother as well the brother’s wife,” the source said.
A source also said that the terrorists opened fire on residents who had rushed out in an attempt to rescue the victims, killing six of them on the spot while six sustained gunshot wounds.
Those killed, according to the source, include Danmasani Gwaska, Mrs. Giwa John, Kapishi Barmu, Ganya Ubangida, Shigama Salisu, and Gani Magawata.
Those kidnapped at Sabon Layi Kan Makama include Zakariya Markus, the retired CBN director, his younger brother, Monday Markus, and his wife.
